This Ph.D has been teaching Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at a major University since 1969 and is now a full professor.  He is a former holder of the Grace Hopper Chair of Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.

He has published more than 70 papers, has authored or coauthored ten books, has edited three books, and has 12 patents. He has chaired the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computer Architecture and the Computer Architecture Committee of the Association for Computer Machinery. He was also a Computer Society Governing Board member, Euromicro director, IEEE Micro editor, and Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing area editor.

He was elected to be a Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to database computers, and he was awarded membership in the Golden Core of the IEEE Computer Society. At the 25th International Symposium on Computer Architecture, he was recognized for having published more papers at this prestigious symposium than any other author. He has consulted for several companies including the Microelectronics and Computer Corporation.
