Professional Summary: Throughout this expert's career he has performed research and developed highly innovative technologies. From the beginning, this activity required in-depth assessment of the maturity of technologies and detailed planning of the development and infusion of those technologies. Within the last decade he formalized the processes involved in technology maturity assessment, technology maturity advancement planning and technology infusion and became recognized as the Agency expert in those areas. As a retired Assistant Director for Technology and Chief Technologist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Marshall Space Flight Center, he has over 39 years of experience in aerospace, including: space-flight hardware development; research, development and application of technology; assessment and infusion of technology into ground-based, airborne and space-flight hardware systems; strategic planning; international and national collaboration development; and creation and management of R and D organizations. As a member of the federal Senior Technical Service ( STS ) he was one of only approximately 400 such individuals in the entire federal government. As a member of the board of directors of SPIE, the international society for optical engineering for 10 years ( including a term as President of the Society ), he developed an in-depth understanding of the operation of international not-for-profit organizations and established an extensive set of international contacts in 24 countries. He developed a number of international collaborative activities and was extensively involved in strategic planning particularly with respect to international operations, and also with regard to overall society operation and structure. Throughout his career he has created organizations and developed technologies and systems that are highly innovative and, from the perspective of the private sector, generated a high return on investment. |
