Professional Summary: This Ph.D began working at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in the Software Concepts Group at the age of 13, and was introduced to the world of object-oriented programming and graphical user interfaces through the Smalltalk programming environment. There he was involved in a variety of projects over the years, including implementations of Smalltalk on the Dorado, a high-speed ECL research machine; the NoteTaker, a portable multiprocessor machine; and the Mycron-2000, a research computer at the University of Oslo, Norway. He joined Apple Computer at the age of 22; there he was a principal designer of the Macintosh, responsible for the design and implementation of the Finder and other innovations pioneered on the Macintosh operating system. His work at Apple with the Mac user interface and Finder desktop metaphor--in particular icon-based, drag-and-drop file handling and double-clicking to open documents in their associated applications--has been universally adopted throughout the computer industry. Since then he has been involved in a variety of startups and has consulted in research and development projects throughout the industry. |
