When the stress level becomes too high, structural damage occurs in the tissue at various levels, with fracture formation a frequently observed outcome. In cryosurgery, fracture formation may lead to excessive bleeding to the thermally-treated tissue, which may result in clinical complications. In cryopreservation, fracture formation may prevent the preserved tissue from recovering.
