Hetenyi Award from the Society for Experimental Stress Analysis for the most significant research paper published in Experimental Mechanics, Brewer Award from the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM),which recognizes an “Outstanding Practicing Stress Analyst” and a Certificate of Recognition from NASA for “the creative development of a technical innovation.”  He was elected as an“Academic Adviser” by the Presidents of the International Academy of Science, Russia “in recognition of the significant scientific achievements in the solution of the engineering problems of mechanics.”  He was one of the pioneers in the use of externally attached small-weight accelerometers for non-invasive, in-vivo measurements of the gait induced impact waves.  The obtained data was used for monitoring the training intensity, understanding the effects of fatigue on the ability of the human musculo-skeletal system to attenuate and dissipate shock waves, to measure the attenuational capacity of the knee joint, to name a few of the applications.  His consulting work led to the development of a range of industrial instruments used for automated analysis of residual stresses in glass products, TV tubes, and compact disks.

This Expert was on a faculty of Iowa State University, Ames, IA (1979-1984) and is currently on faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics and Bioengineering Program at Lehigh University, where he teaches mechanics and biomechanics graduate and undergraduate courses.  During this period he supervised over 25 visiting scientists and 15 MS and PhD students. This Ph.D. has over 25 years of experience in the design, simulation, and realization of complex systems, power electronics, analog electronics, and high voltage systems.  He has worked on 120 kW electric race cars, hybrid-electric vehicle systems, 120 kV pulsed power systems integrated with low voltage semiconductor control electronics, and numerous analog electronic systems.  His simulation experience includes circuit simulation with PSpice, system simulation with MATLAB and C, and Model-Based-Design using MIL, SIL, and HIL techniques. He is the author of several textbooks on circuit simulation, MATLAB programming, computer usage, and has also authored several courses on Model-Based-Design.  His academic website is referenced by students and professionals and has course materials available on analog circuit design, power electronics, and Model-Based-Design.

He studied computer systems, analog design, and high voltage pulsed-power at the University of Michigan graduate school.  He went on to teach at the university level and consult at National Labs and various companies.  His projects included an analog system to control the bombardment heating system of a large-cathode electron gun, a 12 V to 1000 V, 300 W portable pulse generator,  an electric race car that could achieve a top speed of 120 MPH, 1.5 kW photovoltaic battery chargers, and modeling and design of hybrid-electric vehicles.  Currently, he is a professor at Rose-Hulman Institute of technology where he is developing new courses on Model-Based-Design and using automatic code generation to design microcontroller systems.  He has two patents on battery chargers for photovoltaic systems and has served as an expert witness in cases involving analog systems, simulation, and battery chargers.

He was responsible for developing applications of DSP algorithms on programmable DSP processors.  He was also with the Speech Systems Research group at the Central Research Laboratories of Texas Instruments in Dallas, with a research focus that included low-bit-rate speech coding.

He is an IEEE Fellow and served as the President of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.  He was a past General Chairman of the International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, and was selected as a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE ASSP Society.  

He is a recipient of the Signal Processing Society's Meritorious Service Award, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal.

He holds four patents in the area of speech coding, and has published many papers on speech processing and digital signal processing.  He is also the author of a book on Speech Coding and the editor of  two Volumes on Digital Signal Processing.
